All About

Second Grade

Second grade is an exciting year for students, parents, and teachers! I have found that we all have much more fun when we know what is expected of us.  Below you will find some information about:

In Mrs. Waider’s Classroom We:

These are the consequences for not following rules:

  1. Yield sign: Warning. This lets them know that I do not approve of what they are doing and gives them a chance to change their behavior.

  2. Stop sign: 5 minutes of recess lost.

  3. Second stop sign: 10 minutes of recess lost.

  4. Third stop sign: Parents contacted and office notified.

Students may be sent IMMEDIATELY to time out for a serious action. A serious action may include stealing, any physical action, act of violence against another student, endangering any adults or any students’ safety. I may determine “a serious action” as it occurs.

Show and Tell

We will have show and tell this year. I encourage children to choose a special item, picture, or story to share with the class. What I do not encourage students to bring is priceless items and family heirlooms. Breakable items need to be left at home. Grandma’s china is not an item I like to see for show and tell! If it is something that would be devastating to lose it should be left at home. (this includes the prized pokemon and yugio collections)

Birthdays

Students are welcome to bring treats to share for their birthday. You are not required to send treats and I do not need prior notice. We will have the birthday treats after first recess. If you plan to send treats be sure they are there by that time. Please send treats that are "nut free" due to student allergies.

Communication

We will be using the Monday Folders to communicate weekly. Inside the folder you will find all of their papers from the previous week along with any notes of other information from the school. The folder also has a form inside where you will read comments that I wrote about the previous week. The form also has a place for you to write comments back, as well as sign that you saw the folder. Papers that require immediate attention will be sent home in the planner if it is a night other than Monday. Keep an eye on the pocket of the planner for any notes or papers that are urgent!   I feel so fortunate to work with you in the education of your child. Feel free to contact me at any time with any questions or comments.  I know that your schedule may not always coincide with my schedule at school so you are more than welcome to call me on my cell (that is my home phone) or e-mail me at anytime.  I encourage you to visit the room and see what we are doing.  I know that we are going to have a great year!
